In the past year, I embarked on an unforgettable journey across New Zealand, meeting people whose lives had been deeply affected by meningitis. This experience was both heart-wrenching and inspiring, as I listened to the stories of survivors and families who had lost loved ones to this devastating disease.

I conducted 11 in-person interviews, traveling solo to meet individuals who bravely shared their experiences. Additionally, I held four Zoom interviews with people who were unable to meet in person. Each conversation was a powerful reminder of how quickly meningitis can strike and how crucial awareness and prevention are.

After each interview, I carefully crafted 2–3 minute videos to highlight each person’s journey. Their words, emotions, and resilience were at the forefront, ensuring that their message would be heard loud and clear.

To make a broader impact, I compiled these stories into a 45-minute film aimed at high school students. The goal of this film is to educate young people about meningitis—its symptoms, risks, and the importance of early detection and vaccination. By sharing these real-life experiences, I hope to empower students with knowledge that could save lives.

This project has been one of the most meaningful I’ve ever undertaken. The people I met have shown incredible strength, and their willingness to share their pain and triumphs has left a lasting impression on me.

Meningitis is a fast-moving and often fatal illness, but through education and awareness, we can help prevent further tragedies. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who participated in this project and shared their stories. If even one life is saved because of this film, then every mile traveled and every tear shed will have been worth it.

To those who have been affected by meningitis, your voices matter. And to those who take the time to learn and spread awareness, you are making a difference.
